How To Prepare A Teaching Lesson Note

What is a Lesson Note?

A lesson note is a sequence of learning activities to be undertaken during a lesson. You are not only expected to write lesson notes everyday, but for every subject too (if the system requires it). So if you're teaching three different subject.

everyday, then you must prepare three lesson notes. Similarly, if you want to teach three different topics on the same lesson, you may also need three lesson notes or a combined progressive one.

Why You Need for Lesson Notes

You can't possibly retain everything you're going to teach in your head. You need some sort of reminder of what to teach, and how you intends to teach it. As a teacher entering the classroom inadequately prepared, might well be inviting disaster. Although every lesson should allow free development, it's still necessary to have a lesson plan. Thus lesson notes are not only desirable but essential.

2. The lesson note makes it necessary for you to consider factors you might unknowingly ignore and skip.

3. The form of lesson notes encourages logical development in preparation.

4. Lesson notes help to make the teacher more confident before the class.

5. Lesson notes direct the attention of the teacher to methods of teaching i.e to the "how" of teaching. Merely to be well versed in a particular subject is not enough. The real task is how to organise the various class activities and learning situations so that the children's understanding is maximized.

6. Lesson notes will enable superviors to anticipate potential difficulty and problems, which the student and teacher might not be able to see.

7. It enables the student-teacher and the supervisor to assess during and after the lesson, whether the learners have realized its objectives.

You should not see the lesson notes as a textbook and read it before the class. It should be near enough for reference, a well planned and sensibly used lesson note will allow room for maneuver.

The Lesson Notes Form and Layout

Although there is no uniformly agreed form of writing lesson note, but whatever form you use a good note should contain the following.

iii. Introduction Every lesson has an introduction. Some teachers simply include the introduction, which is essential to prepare the minds of the students for what is coming. The interests of the students must be aroused before any teaching is possible. The minds of students are best prepared by a short direct introduction.

iv. Aims and objective The whole area of educational intention is bond in terminological confusion. There are many terms like goals, tasks, objective etc.

Referring to educational intention. Aims and objective both refer to expressions of educational intention, and purpose, but each specifics varying degree of generality and specificity respectively.
